Donna Engstrom
ARTIST STATEMENT
My passion is painting and collage. Layering texture and color in an intuitive manner, I attempt to weave a visual history. I enjoy working in a series as it allows me to communicate my concept in various ways. My goal is to provide a mysterious and intriguing surface, engaging the viewer.
My first love is painting in the abstract. Painting with color and shape allow for exploration of a wide range of subjects while allowing the viewer to connect with the art work, inventing their own story. It is especially delightful to me when someone arrives at a painting’s meaning by a totally different route than the one I traveled creating the work.
I find words especially appealing and much of my work is inspired by books and poetry. Currently, I am exploring the subject of a Woman’s Worth based on Marianne Williamson’s book of the same name. Other series-in-progress include “Home” and “Color”.
PARTICULARS
Donna is a self-taught artist whose work is in many private and corporate collections. Luscious textures and vibrant colors are trademarks of her work. She has been in many juried shows and exhibitions. Welcome to her world! Donna paints on a regular basis with the goal of becoming a self-supporting artist. She is also charter member of the Brighton Art Guild; organizes a quarterly art exhibit at the Howell Area Chamber of Commerce; teaches art part-time to third-eighth graders.
