Workshop geared toward adults 18 yrs and older.

Course Overview
6hrs class $150.00 includes kit fee and the use of solder & chemicals associated with class.
In this presentation we will explore surface techniques and soldering For, use in jewelry making.
You will learn techniques to color and etch metal, including chemical etching and using a hand tool.
Basic soldering techniques will also be included, bezel setting with both wire and sheet solder.
Students will also learn reticulation and we will be working with chemicals, and an acetylene torch so please wear appropriate clothing,
if you are pregnant please consult your physician with any concerns. Students will create several pieces for use in wearable art and beyond.

Suggested Supply List (to be brought by student)
Etching Soldering and Beyond
A kit is included in the fee
(The kit includes sterling silver sheet, bezel wire,gemstone cabachon,and metal sheet.)
Sterling Wire 16-20gauge
Metal sheet, copper, brass, sterling
Wire, of your choice
Extra Bezel wire
Metal working tools including hammers, (chasing & rawhide) jeweler’s saw, and files
Solder (Wire and or Sheet) Hard, Medium, Easy
Flux (Paste and liquid)
Mini torch (if you have one.)
* (You will also need to bring a heat resistant surface and a fire brick if you are bringing your own mini torch.)
DO NOT bring a fire brick from a DIY or Home Improvement Store
Why ? because according to the Silversmithing yahoo group "these pose a risk of exploding when heated,because of the possible condensation of water that may be inside.( When working with a large piece for soldering it may become necessary to insert straight pins into the brick to hold your bezel in place as you solder.)This CANNOT be done with a brick from a home improvement store. *You can Purchase from UrbanRomantic.etsy.com or reputable jewelry supply or lapidary stores.
Gemstones (Cabochons)
Found objects, and any item you would like to use in your piece of jewelry. Extension cords, personal lighting (if you have any)
Bench pin
Copper Tongs
containers for water and Pickling
Notebook for taking notes
Rio Grande, Contenti and Thunderbird supply are good sources to purchase all the above supplies from.
You can also Check out www.Volcanoarts.biz.(They carry the frugal flex shaft and a basic metal working kit, reasonably priced.) If you have a lapidary store near you they should carry all the needed supplies.
· The instructor will have supplies available for purchase during class, including but not limited to: wire, sheet metals, rivets, and acrylic sheet, gemstones ,cabachons and found objects.
